Winemaker
NZ
About Us
Home to Villa Maria, our vision is to be one of the world's great wine companies, sharing the best of New Zealand wine with the world.
Our grapes come from over 6,000 hectares of planted vineyards and blended in our wineries across three of the renowned wine regions - Marlborough, Hawke's Bay, and Gisborne - and our wines are exported globally.
From grape to glass, we're passionate about wine and we love what we do!
The Role
Reporting to a Production Winemaker, you'll be a bridge between our Planning Team and our Operations Teams — turning schedules into high-quality winemaking outcomes across our export wines, local brands, and Villa Maria portfolio.
If production winemaking is what lights you up — the teamwork and coordination, the problem solving, the craft of winemaking at scale, you'll thrive here!
Day to day, you'll:
- Support Production Winemakers with production scheduling, aligning with demand, production capacity, and technical specs,
- Own work orders and winery production end to end, keeping operations on schedule,
- Be the connector across Winemaking, Planning, Lab, and Operations,
- Support harvest intake planning, continuous floatation, propagation, and capacity management during vintage,
- Identify ways to improve efficiency, quality and process across production winemaking, through continuous improvement and innovation.
You'll do it inside the largest, most technically advanced winery in New Zealand — with exposure to one of New Zealand’s most storied wine portfolios and a genuine path to Production Winemaker.
About you
- Have practical winery experience in a cellar — with Cellar Supervision experience being a bonus,
- At least one harvest in an Assistant Winemaking role,
- A degree in winemaking, oenology, or equivalent,
- Sharp planning and organisation skills, comfortable in a fast-paced, seasonal environment,
- A natural problem solver — someone who sees a snag before it is a snag, and sorts it,
- Be a New Zealand citizen or resident.
On Offer
- Competitive Salary, phone, Wine Allowance, and Wellness Allowance,
- Southern Cross Health Insurance,
- Real career pathways — Winemaker, operations, or other roles across our wineries, vineyards, or head office,
- Flexible working environment, with empowerment, responsibility, and challenge,
- One "You Day" per year — a day for you, to do what you choose,
- Additional company-paid parental leave, plus the option to buy an extra two weeks' annual leave,
- A positive, helpful, diverse, and passionate team who take the work seriously — but not themselves!
