THE ROLE

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to support the Group General Counsel by providing practical, commercially focused legal advice that enables business outcomes while managing legal and reputational risk. This role works closely with key business teams, becoming a trusted advisor across diverse day-to-day matters, with primary focus on:

  • Commercial contracting and governance across areas such as sales, procurement, technology, and partnering.
  • Broad legal advisory support including disputes, intellectual property, privacy, regulatory/compliance, property, and other operational matters.

You’ll be supported, but expected to be self-directed, collaborative, curious, and improvement-oriented. You’ll be willing to partner with stakeholders to codesign pragmatic solutions and continually lift impact.  

This role would offer strong career progression for a mid-level solicitor, in an ambitious New Zealand business, operating in global markets and navigating a changing industry. 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders and provide clear, pragmatic legal advice aligned to commercial outcomes. 
  • Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, and improve templates, playbooks and workflows. 
  • Deliver clear legal advice on day-to-day matters including disputes, privacy, intellectual property, regulatory/compliance matters and property-related issues. 
  • Support efficient legal operations through matter management, process improvement and coordination of external counsel. 



ABOUT YOU

•    Ideally 4–6 years’ post qualification experience (PQE) in legal practice or in house counsel roles. 
•    Strong capability in commercial contracting and governance across areas such as procurement, sales, technology, and partnerships. 
•    Advisory experience across a range of legal areas, including disputes, IP, privacy, regulatory and/or property would be desirable. 
•    Naturally collaborative, curious, improvement driven, and comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
•    Self directed with strong initiative and the ability to balance commercial outcomes with legal risk.
